My Bubba (Anima supports)
Thur, Sept 21 @ 7:30pm
Scandinavian folk duo My Bubba makes soft, soulful, sensual music that’s as playful as it is powerful. Together, My Larsdotter and Bubba Tomasdottir have toured with Damien Rice, co-written music with Matthew E. White, recorded with Noah Georgeson, and stepped on Bryan Adams’ toes. Literally. My Bubba’s new album, Big Bad Good, was recorded with Shahzad Ismaily (Will Oldham, Jolie Holland) at his Brooklyn studio, Figure 8 Recording. The songs were recorded as they were written, and most of the takes are among the first times the songs were ever sung —allowing the record to portray the immediate rawness and intimacy of a newborn song.
Opening for My Bubba is Anima, an original alt-indie-folk duo from the hills of the Driftless Region in Southwestern Wisconsin. Comprised of Raina Gravatt and Jaia Wilbour, Anima's eclectic sound is filled with hauntingly captivating harmonies, double-lead guitar riffs, and an affinity for the box drum. Anima's songs contemplate human nature, healing, relationships, and oneness, passing through a lens of transcendentalism saturated with images of the deepest roots of nature -- our earthen home, the patterns that exist, the fact that we are animals, and the endless fractal of breathing, reminding us that we are all connected.
